Eyafjorður is the beautiful fjord in N. Iceland beside which stands the city of Akureyri. The piece opens with the sound of the Cathedral clock, and this is followed by a picture of the quiet beauty of the fjord. The presence of the Cathedral overlooking the city is suggested by snatches of a well-known Icelandic hymn-tune: “Vist ert þú, Jesús, Kóngur Klár”. The piece was written for Ann Griffiths, who gave the first performance in Akureyri Cathedral in May, 1969.
