Kieron Galliard was born in 1980. It was as a chorister at Lincoln Cathedral that he began his musical training, but in 1993 he took up a place at Wells Cathedral School, specialising in composition, and working with Jeffery Sharkey and Simon Dearsley. In 1995 he became the first composition student to be awarded a Department for Education grant for further study at Wells, and it was at the request of a fellow student, harpist Deian Siôn Rowlands, that Ensueño Español (Spanish Dream) was written

The first performance was given in the concert hall of Wells Cathedral School on 11 May 1996, and since then it has been widely played, including performances in London, Paris and Madrid. Ensueño Español is the first of Kieron Galliard's compositions to be published.
